I made us cookies!
These are my “I’m new to the neighborhood” cookies, and I’m standing before you in my best elastic-waist pants and the-best-I-can-do-with-what-I-got-hair. I want to make a good impression on you.
I really do.
But the only thing I can promise you is that these cookies will let you hear me out. At least for today.
My name is Laura, I live in Houston, and I’m in that mid-40’s age range (Ugh). I started this blog to document my kitchen fun. I love to cook, but I was never really interested until after my daughter was born. I would make a few things here or there until she came along, but for the most part we ate Dominoes, Ragu, and Campbell’s tomato soup. Oh, and lots of Jack in the Box (I mean, have you had their tacos?).
My husband Brian is 6’5″ and won’t eat a vegetable to save his life. I try. I really do with all the glitter I can possibly come up with. But as he usually tells me, this void in his diet didn’t hurt his growth. He’s also a meat and potatoes dude. No fancy stuff for him. I work on that aspect of him as well.
I also have two kids. Jack is 10 and at this point, he’s all about football, drawing and Harry Potter. He’s funny, smart, and incredibly artistic. I’m a reader, my husband was athletic, and the art part? We have no idea. None.
Kate is 6 at this point, and we truly think she might be the next Carol Burnett. Slapstick comedy is her jam. Well, that and tiaras. And puppies. And Barbie. She’s a lapdog for my son, though, because he tells her to do something and she says, “Okay, Boss.” We can’t quite figure out if she’s being funny or serious, though.
I just wanted to stop by and introduce myself. I hope you like these cookies. They truly are some of the best I’ve ever made (and I’ve made A LOT).
The recipe is from King Arthur Flour, and while it says the almond extract is optional, I fully believe it is not. If you are going to eat a cookie, eat a good cookie.
